In her newsletter La Briffe, @ruth.reichl said to go to @sarashinahorii for soba noodles, so we did.

The first shot is the soba cooking water they bring when you’re finished with the noodles. You mix it with leftover sauce, and it becomes a lovely, warm broth.

We started with sashimi—yellowtail, tuna, and salmon. Then I had cold soba noodles and shrimp and veggie tempura. Camil had soba and mushroom soup.

We ended the meal with matcha tiramisu.

This is one of those restaurants that makes me happy to live in New York. It is the American outpost of a Tokyo restaurant that has been in business since the eighteenth century. According to Reichl, this one is closing in June. We will be back before then.

🍷 For my latest Drinking with Jenna column I tried many (many!) zero-proof spirits, cocktails, and wines under the expert guidance of @emily.heintz at @sechey. Look for my faves in the March issue of @real_simple. Spoiler alert: they include @nullwines, @st_agrestis, @amethystnaspirits, @drinkghia, @ritualzeroproof, and @curiouselixirs.

And, if you’re in NYC (or Charleston) check out Sechey. It’s a beautiful retail store where you can taste and buy an astonishing selection of zero ABV and other functional beverages. It was an eye-opener for me, for sure.

A few highlights from a whirlwind weekend in Sonoma with @brooklynwriter. We ate, drank wine (obvs), and saw some redwoods. Totally worth flying across the country for!

🍷 A few highlights:

* Wine tasting @marinelayerwines (where I ran into a friend from DC I hadn’t seen in 10 years @lmaomao3!)
* A fun tapas-style meal @tascatasca
* A nostalgic meal @girlandthefigsonoma. Nostalgic not because I’d been there before, but because it was one of the first cookbooks I got when I was just getting into food, and it was hugely inspiring to me. 💜

I have made and eaten many (many!) veggie burgers, and I say with absolute confidence that this one developed by @lizzybriskin for the March issue of @real_simple is the.best. You’ve got black beans and sautéed mushrooms (umami!), plus tomato paste and Parm (more umami!), plus just a few other ingredients. And you’ll have these beauties on the table in under a half hour.

It’s not often that I have a feast for lunch on a Tuesday. But I’m into it!

🍷 My new column Drinking With Jenna launched in the Jan/Feb issue of @real_simple! Every month I’m talking to wine and cocktail pros about how we can drink better, smarter, and more deliciously. For the first installment I got tips from @kateleahycooks @sommspirations and @zacharysussman about what to do if you find yourself in a grocery story or big box liquor store surrounded by bottles with no clue what to choose. In upcoming months I’ll be drinking non-alcoholic spirits with @sechey and learning about how to order wine at restaurants with @tamyrofe, so stay tuned!
